Police-Involved Shooting
Member wellness is a priority for the Victoria City Police Union (VCPU)

March 15, 2021 (Victoria, BC)

While at the Royal Jubilee Hospital for an unrelated matter, our officers were alerted to a situation involving a man brandishing a weapon in another area of the hospital, to which they responded. As we’ve often experienced, officers are expected to make difficult split-second decisions every day on the job. Our thoughts and support go out to the hospital staff that were subjected to this violent incident, being a witness can be very traumatizing and we hope they receive any needed support.

We have confidence our members have acted appropriately in this incident and believe the investigation will support that.

We continue to call for more support from municipal and provincial officials as we try to address the growing issues and challenges related to mental health, homelessness and police resourcing that are greatly impacting our community right now.
